We are De la Roy.
There is not a design we can’t realise. As specialists in processing and contour cutting of EPS, we realise the most complex products, but things didn’t start out that way, over six decades ago. De la Roy was established as an insulation company for cold and hot water pipes. The trade in insulating roof slabs, floor slabs and cavity slabs was added later on. After partnering up with Hendrik van Dijk (Unidek founder) and the purchase of a contour cutting machine in 2007, our design department really started to grow. We have been proudly carrying the name De la Roy Insulation & Design ever since.
The beginning of De la Roy
In 1959, Wiel de la Roy starts his company W.J. De la Roy B.V. at Gasstraat in Venray, the Netherlands. He insulates cold and hot water pipes for large companies such as Rank Xerox, Océ, DSM and local market gardeners. He soon buys the adjacent old gas factory to store insulation material for pipes and boilers. When the building is completely destroyed by a fire, De la Roy will not be defeated by this setback. He rebuilds the warehouse with the cleaned bricks and includes a new residential unit as part of his efforts. Meanwhile, the amount of work is increasing enormously. With the emergence of the agricultural sector, De la Roy is also adding stable insulation to the portfolio. Insulation work for residential and non-residential construction is added not much later.
Trade in insulation materials
Around 1970, Wiel de la Roy expands his business with the trade in insulation materials. He purchases a professional milling machine that can make two grooves in EPS sheets. This connection system prevents a thermal bridge between insulation boards. It is ideal for cold stores and deep-freeze units. Demand for insulation materials from residential and non-residential construction is still growing. In 1974, De la Roy builds a large new industrial unit of 1,250 square metres. Trucks are coming and going. In the mid-1980s, De la Roy distinguishes itself in the market with customised insulation for the construction sector.
A new course
In 1977, Tenerife was the scene of a tragic aviation disaster. Wiel and his wife Annie do not survive, leaving five children. The company continues under the leadership of Ria Latimer, Wiel’s sister, and her husband Andy. Grandpa and grandma De la Roy take care of the children. In the early 1990s, Henny, son of Wiel and Annie, joins the company as a director. He decides to specialise De la Roy in EPS customisation. He purchases cutting machines that can cut all kinds of shapes in polystyrene foam, such as decoration and lettering for interior finishers and set design. In 2007, new business premises are added at Industriestraat in Venray and the company name is changed to De la Roy Insulation & Design. From then on, Hendrik van Dijk is closely involved with De la Roy, whilst cooperation with Havadi is already intensive. They own a 3D milling machine and a spray booth. This proves to be a golden combination with the contour cutting machines of De la Roy. On 1 January 2010, we move to Gemert, the Netherlands, but we soon outgrow our premises here as well. That’s why in September 2019, we moved into a brand new sustainable building at Industrieweg in Gemert, together with the other companies of the Van Dijk Group (VDG). Here, we work with a team of fifteen people on the most complex EPS objects.
